Combined Heat and Power systems provide big savings for elder care facilities
Dalkia Aegis, EDF Group, LLC, a leader in modular CHP systems based in Holyoke, MA, has announced the completion of a Combined Heat and Power system installation at San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.
The system features the Aegen ThermoPower 75kW system and is providing hot water to DHW and space heating loads.
Established in 1979, San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation is a 120 bed not-for-profit health care facility operated as an outreach to the community, offering short-term rehabilitation, long term care and adult day care services.
Located in Greenport, NY, San Simeon strives to be a provider of choice and center of excellence within the community by partnering with area health care providers, responding rapidly to changes in health care practice, and using innovative technology to maximize the individual’s quality of life and quality of care.
The Dalkia Aegis, EDF Group CHP system is projected to provide an annual savings of $42,000 for San Simeon. Because CHP is considered to be an energy efficient technology, the site will also be able to take advantage of a discounted gas rate from National Grid for the natural gas used to fuel the system.
Founded in 1985, Dalkia Aegis, EDF Group is a full service Combined Heat and Power developer and installer that utilizes modular systems to reduce both energy costs and emissions for a variety of facilities, from healthcare and assisted living facilities, to recreational and multi-residential complexes, and hotels. There are also institutional, educational, and industrial facility applications.
Dalkia Aegis’s Combined Heat and Power systems deliver two forms of energy- heat and electricity, from a single fuel source (natural gas).
“Nursing homes are usually a very good fit for Combined Heat and Power systems,” said Dale Desmarais, Director of Sales and Marketing for Dalkia Aegis. “They usually have a central heating system that provides Domestic Hot Water to its rooms and residents. Also, many of these facilities use a lot of electricity for medical equipment, lighting and other technology, and electricity is the free by-product of our packaged CHP systems.”
Dalkia Aegis, EDF Group has extensive experience working in the healthcare, elder care, and nursing home arena with complete projects at facilities such as the West Hartford Health and Rehab Center, Southington Care, Hughes Health, and Bradley Home.
The installation at Bradley Home & Pavilion Senior Care Facility in Meriden, CT., has been operational for more than seven years and has provided increased energy efficiency and tens of thousands of dollars in annual energy savings.
