CHP system delivered to county prison as part of power upgrade
Aegis Energy, EDF Group, LLC, an innovative Combined Heat and Power company out of Holyoke, MA, has shipped a 225kW PowerSync system to Scranton, PA to provide cogeneration capabilities to Lackawanna County Prison.
The Lackawanna County Prison is located at 1371 North Washington Avenue in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The Prison was originally built in the mid 1880’s for a population of 110 prisoners. A major renovation and expansion was completed in 1999, allowing for a maximum population of approximately 1,200 prisoners.
Aegis’ utilizes highly efficient modular systems to reduce both energy costs and emissions for a variety of facilities, from healthcare and assisted living facilities, to recreational and multi-residential complexes, and hotels. There are also institutional, educational, and industrial facility applications.
All of the needs of the inmates are contained within the walls of the prison such as laundry, food service, canteen, medical services, chapel, gymnasium and housing units.
Lackawanna County Prison is upgrading its current power structure by replacing a 400 kW standby generator with a new 600 kW generator and Aegis’ 225 kW PowerSync system.
The Aegen PowerSync addresses the need for standby power by adding black start capability. The system operates 24/7 throughout the year delivering continuous energy savings. The Aegis system will supplement the domestic hot water on site.
This is the third corrections facility in the Aegis Energy, EDF Group portfolio. The company has previously worked with MCI-Plymouth, a 211 bed, Level 3 minimum security and Level 2 pre-release security community correctional facility located in South Carver, MA and is nearing the start up phase with Oneida County Prison in Upstate NY.
