Aegis Energy, EDF Group announces CHP project at Boston Quincy Marriott

Combined Heat and Power Company to develop three systems for Boston-area hotel

Aegis Energy, EDF Group, LLC a leader in modular CHP systems based in Holyoke, MA, has announced an agreement with the Boston Marriott Quincy in Quincy, MA to develop three Combined Heat and Power systems for the hotel.

The Boston Quincy Marriott is part of Marriott International, Inc. a leading hospitality company with more than 3,900 properties, 18 brands, and a multitude of managed / franchised properties around the world.

The hotel is located on the South Shore of Boston with easy access to the city and its attractions. The hotel features 464 rooms including eight suites, as well as a Concierge Level, business center and health club. It also holds more than 15,000 square feet of meeting space.

Marriott International has committed to reducing its environmental impact by empowering its development partners to build green hotels and setting a goal of reducing energy and water consumption by 20 percent by the year 2020.

Combined Heat and Power proved to be the right fit for the hotel in its effort to fulfill the corporate mission. By capturing and utilizing heat that would otherwise be wasted from the production of electricity, CHP systems require less fuel than equivalent separate heat and power systems to produce the same amount of energy.

Because less fuel is combusted, greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide (CO2), as well as criteria air pollutants like nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur dioxide (SO2), are reduced.

Founded in 1985, Aegis Energy, EDF Group is a full service Combined Heat and Power developer that manufactures and installs modular systems to reduce both energy costs and emissions for a variety of facilities, from healthcare and assisted living facilities, to recreational and multi-residential complexes, and hotels. There are also institutional, educational, and industrial facility applications.

Combined Heat and Power (CHP), also known as cogeneration, is an efficient, clean, and reliable technology, which simultaneously generates electricity and thermal energy from a single fuel source.

The systems installed at the Boston Quincy Marriott will provide space heating and domestic hot water. The cogen systems are projected to bring an annual savings of $144,425 to the sites energy and hot waters costs.

The Boston Marriott Quincy project represents a continuation of Aegis’ significant track record of developing CHP systems in the Boston area including work with the Saunders Hotel Group and large-scale projects with Equity Residential Properties.
